Technology options

There are various technological options for production of heat and power from fossil fuels with CO₂ sequestration. Power processes with CO₂ capture can be divided into the following categories:

I Pre combustion
The carbon in the fuel is extracted before (pre) the combustion takes place.

II Post combustion
The CO₂ is extracted from the flue gas after (post) the combustion process.

III Oxyfuel
The combustion takes place with pure oxygen, and the CO₂ is extracted after the combustion by flue gas cooling.
