Edge Trimming Device

The edge-trimming device is based on a rotating, circular knife mounted on a linear rail system. This is mounted on the floor or on the cantilever beam as appropriate. The design of the rail system will be adjusted to order. The system can be delivered with 2 or more cutting devices.

Cutter details

• Blade with radius 210mm, this ensures the best cutting angle. The steel quality is the best available.
• Gearbox 7:1. The cutting speed is variable from 200-500 rpm.
  This allows a fabric speed up to 20 m/min during cutting. The recommended fabric speed during cutting is 8-12 m/min.
  The torque is 10Nm. This ensures a safe cutting of seams for non-endless fabrics.
• The support brackets are designed to minimize vibration.
• A splitting knife is mounted after the blade to decrease the friction on the blade. This reduces the temperature on the blade.
• The blade holder is designed for an easy and safe exchange of blade.

Cover

The cover is made to give maximum protection combined with the best support for the fabric during cutting. The motor with blade is raised and lowered by means of a pneumatic cylinder, and when the cutter is not in use the blade will be lowered and 100% protected.

Control

The control made for the cutting device is most important and is made very flexible to cover the different tasks. The positioning of the cutters can be done automatically or in manual.

The typical operation for edge-cutting will be that the operator moves the front side cutter to the desired position and activates a function called "Lock to width". This will move the rear side cutter according to the cutting width set point. From this point both cutters will operate synchronous so any sideway guiding will move both cutters. (This requires integration in a control system).

The guiding is designed to make the cutting as smooth as possible. The operator can do the operation manually, locally by hand, or remote by video/ push-button control. In automatic, a guiding unit is designed to detect and follow a woven line, and adjust the cutters accordingly.

The design will allow splitting of fabrics by using only one cutter.

The transport system is rigid and can take additional load. I.e. customer's equipment for sealing the edge can be added.
